Tinder Is The Top Grossing iOS App In The World

Tinder

Tinder is currently the number one top-grossing app on the US App Store.

The dating app sits above companies like TIDAL, Netflix, Candy Crush Saga, Pandora, HBO Now and YouTube.

Tinder climbed four places from Monday 28th August this week, taking the number one spot from Pandora yesterday.

It’s some achievement from Tinder, whose monetisation has gone from strength to strength since launching its subscription tier Tinder Plus in March 2015.

As demonstrated by the App Annie graph below, since then, the Tinder team has done an incredible job with its monetisation strategy, the dating app seeing a steady increase from the bottom of the top 20 in Jan 2016, to its current position at the top of the pile.

The push to the number one spot comes as Tinder rolls out its new subscription tier Tinder Gold around the world.

Tinder Gold gives subscribers access to new feature Likes You, which shows you who has liked you on the dating app.

In addition to showing who has liked you since you last opened the app, when you are swiping through the normal Tinder feed, you will be told if anyone you come across has already liked you on the app.

In the US, the current pricing for Tinder Gold, which is still being tested, is $4.99 per month.

The Tinder team celebrated the milestone on social media, Head of Marketing & Communications Rosette Pambakian writing on Instagram: “#1 Top grossing app in the world. Couldn’t be more proud right now. Congrats @tinder team. We did it!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🔥🔥🔥🎉🎉🎉”

Brian Norgard, the architect behind Tinder’s monetisation strategy, said on Twitter: “Today Tinder is the top grossing app in the world — I told you subscriptions might be a thing one day🔥🔥🔥”

The Chief Product Officer also said it had reached the milestone despite the fact that Tinder Gold is only 25% rolled out in the US.

We are thrilled to have Brian Norgard speaking at this year’s GDI London online dating conference alongside The League CEO & founder Amanda Bradford, The Meet Group, App Annie, Microsoft, Facebook and Paktor.
