Badoo Boss Confirmed As Bumble Backer

Rumours that Bumble, the Tinder rival created by ex-employees, is being backed by the founder of Badoo have been confirmed.

Bumble launched last week, and works in a similar way to Tinder, apart from that women must start the conversation.

The app has been created by a team of former Tinder employees, including Whitney Wolfe, who launched a sexual harassment suit against the IAC-owned app, accusing former CMO Justin Mateen, and former CEO Sean Rad, of misogynistic abuse while she worked there.

And in a Businessweek interview, Wolfe said that during this time she found a supporter in Andrey Andreev, the founder of Badoo.

After a few meetings, they decided to go into business together, with female-focused app Bumble.

Andreev said Wolfe was one of “very few people who approach an existing space with a new perspective and have the vision to really change it.”

It is so far unclear how much of a stake Andreev, or Badoo, has in the app – but one can understand why they’d want to back an app gunning for Tinder’s title, especially one with such a personal stake in the fight.
