FROM THE WEB: ‘Asia’s heavy mobile usage helps dating sites thrive’ – SmartPlanet

Mobile Phone

Online dating is growing in Asia, and over at SmartPlanet there is a great blog by Vanessa Ko about the rise of mobile dating in Hong Kong.

Ko’s article says that the heavy mobile usage in the city is helping to drive online dating in a culture that is typically more conservative.

She talks to Brett Harding from Lovestruck, a site that recently expanded to Singapore and Hong Kong, who says online dating works so well in Asia because it removes the “nervousness of talking to each other.”

Many dating sites are looking to expand to Asia following the success others have seen – Ashley Madison recently launched in Hong Kong and had their most successful launch yet.

And with online dating becoming more acceptable and mobile markets expanding, it increasingly looks like Asia might the next frontier for the online dating world.
