Hornet Supporting Same-Sex Marriage Equality In Taiwan With #WeAreOne Campaign

Hornet

Hornet is asking its users to back the company’s #WeAreOne campaign, which is supporting Taiwan’s case for legalising same-sex marriage.

The campaign started on 10th May and ends today on the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT), and is in partnership with the Taiwan Alliance for Civil Partnership.

#WeAreOne aims to raise awareness and support for the legalisation of same-sex marriage in Taiwan – the decision is being made by the Taiwanese Constitutional Court, and the case is expected to close on 24th May.

The campaign is also hoping to encourage people to get involved with IDAHOT.

IDAHOT brings together over 130 countries, including 22 nations where same-sex marriage is legal but “discrimination persists”, aiming to raise awareness about LGBTQ equality.

Hornet President Sean Howell said: “There is only one country in Africa with marriage equality and none in Asia.

“Now that North America, South America and Europe largely have marriage equality, it is important to note that most people in the world live on these two other continents and don’t enjoy this equality.

“Winning marriage equality in Taiwan is important and can be a light not only to the rest of Asia but also to fellow Mandarin speaking China–whose influence in the world is extremely important.”

Hornet is asking its 20m users to post images and videos of support to its campaign page on Facebook or Instagram, using the hashtags #WeAreOne and #HornetApp.

Once posted, the app is asking people to share posts to their personal Facebook wall, as a symbol of support for the LGBTQ community.
