The proliferation of dating apps in recent years has drastically changed the culture of restaurants and other popular date venues, says a new Washington Post article.

This is according to those who work in these establishments, who explain how online dating, and the rise of the famous “Tinder date”, has affected the way many restaurants and bars operate.

Written by Lavanya Ramanathan, the post gives insight into some of the awkward experiences often had by the employees of popular date venues, such as seeing customers swiping through Tinder whilst they are actually on a date.

Speaking to a number of popular Washtington-based venues, the reporter finds that while failed first dates provide amusement for the waiters and bar staff, dates that go well can also be particularly bad, with some customers staying in the venue past closing hours.

Ramanathan does however explain how some businesses have come to embrace the recent boom in Tinder dates, with owners like Ashok Bajaj – who owns several Washington restaurants – even changing the layout of their venues to accommodate daters.
