The on-demand dating model is working in Hong Kong for dating app DateTix, its key metics seeing a strong boost in the first quarter of 2016.

The service has apparently topped Tinder on both the iOS and Android download charts in Hong Kong after the two apps were launched in February and March, according to App Annie.

Users of the app — which is live in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Sydney, Singapore & Melbourne — can choose to either host a date, or browse through proposed dates, and pick one that takes their fancy.

And for the quarter ending 31st March, the company saw a 167% month-on-month increase in MAUs, hitting 6,100 in Hong Kong.

DateTix was also downloaded 15,800 times across all platforms in the first quarter, and over 4,500 date listings were posted in March, up over 209%.

Speaking about the quarter, DateTix founder & CEO Michael Ye said: “For the DateTix Group, the quarter has been a pivotal period in terms of its platform rollout and initial user growth in Hong Kong. A highlight for DateTix was the successful launch of the iOS and Android apps in February and March respectively, with strong user take-up achieved in a very short period of time.

“We are well positioned to ride a wave of growing popularity for online dating services. Our highly differentiated offering appeals to busy young professionals who are eager to meet new people but are increasingly pressed for time.”

The company says it is targeting reaching 30-50k MAUs by the end of 2016.

In addition to running its on-demand dating service, DateTix also launched a offline premium matchmaking service last December, costing $2,100 per client, which includes a guaranteed number of dates over a 12 month period.

Regarding future plans, Ye said: “We are committed to building user density in Hong Kong and are confident of continued growth across key metrics in upcoming quarters. The initial user growth achieved, combined with a differentiated focus on facilitating offline and in-person dates, provides us with the confidence in our ability to expand in the Hong Kong market.”

The team also plans on moving into the mainland of China, to Shenzhen, to try and capture some of China’s huge market, as well as opening in Singapore.

Earlier this year, DateTix sold one of its consulting businesses in order to generate cash and allow it to focus on the on-demand dating app.
